This is an outstanding and nice-sized specimen of melanite garnet from the famous San Benito County locality.
The brilliant, sharp garnet crystals are covering almost an entire 14x10 cm large side of the specimen and are accompanied by a few blades of clinochlore.
Despite being a black mineral specimen, this is an extremely showy example of a Californian classic.
